All engines, with the exception of the 1.0 TSI 95PS unit are available with an optional seven-speed DSG transmission. The SCALA’s diesel option is a 1.6 TDI unit that generates 115PS. The petrol range consists of two 1.0 TSI units with 95PS and 115PS and a 1.5 TSI engine with 150PS. Three engine options will be offered to customers from launch (two petrol and one diesel) with power outputs ranging from 115PS to 150PS, while a 95PS petrol engine arrives later in the summer. Inside, the seats are finished with silver Microsuede trims and chrome details on the dashboard, door panelling, gear and handbrake lever. ![]() The exterior design features 17-inch alloy wheels, full LED rear lights, dynamic indicators and privacy glass on the rear windows. It includes ŠKODA’s new Amundsen infotainment system with 9.2-inch glass touchscreen, digital cockpit, climate control air conditioning, keyless entry with start/stop and a colour multifunction trip computer. The range-topping SE L is priced from £19,580 with the £20,380 OTR option first in the UK, and adds even more equipment and delivers one of the most comprehensive specification lists in the segment. The mid-range SE model is priced from £17,780 with the £18,580 OTR option arriving in the UK first, and adds cruise control, rear parking sensors, Bolero infotainment system with eight-inch touchscreen, integrated umbrella and height adjustable passenger seat. In terms of safety equipment, the S model, which joins the range later in the summer, features front head and side airbags, front assist, lane assist, speed limiter and emergency call with proactive services. Customers opting for S trim also get air-conditioning, DAB digital radio, front and rear electric windows and Swing infotainment system with 6.5-inch screen. The entry-level ‘S’ trim is fitted with 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, leather steering wheel, gear and handbrake lever and a height adjustable driver’s seat. The range consists of three familiar trim grades S, SE and SE L, with all three offering high levels of standard specification. SCALA arrives in the UK this summer with an evolution of ŠKODA’s design language along with a host of all-new infotainment systems and safety innovations. SCALA boasts class-leading levels of practicality and space, safety, efficiency and Simply Clever features alongside sharp, modern, distinctive design and a range of personalisation options. The all-new SCALA hatchback will be priced from just £16,595 on-the-road (OTR) for the S trim up to £20,380 OTR for the range-topping SE L. ![]() There’s a lot of hard plastic throughout the cabin, but this does at least mean it should stand up to life as a family car well – and it’ll deliver what you need in this respect as rear legroom is great and the 467-litre boot dwarfs many more premium cars in this class. SCALA pricing and trim levels announced While the infotainment is solid at this price, with quick responses and enough features, plus a big screen, the interior quality is best described as robust, rather than tactile and plush. However, at £22,365 – and as good as the powertrain is – the value sweet spot lies elsewhere in the Scala range, as the 108bhp 1.0-litre TSI model is more affordable. The trim level also features LED headlights as standard, along with Front Assist with autonomous emergency braking, lane assist, a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with sat-nav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, all-round parking sensors, cruise control, air-conditioning and some of the Simply Clever touches Skoda’s pragmatic and affordable models have become known for, such as an umbrella. SE Technology’s conservative 16-inch alloy wheels no doubt help this. As a result, the Scala sometimes jostles passengers in their seats over ruffled tarmac, but it does a good enough job to cushion the worst the road can throw at it at this time of year, littered with potholes. ![]()
